Tectonic displacements induced in Yamakoshi mountain terrain in the M6.8 Oct. 23rd, 2004 Mid-Niigata Prefecture EQ

Landform changes due to the earthquake were first assessed using digital elevation models before and after the earthquake. Then, changes in elevation in Eulerian description were converted to Lagrangian displacements, and the obtained Lagrangian ground displacements were further resolved into shallow and deep seated displacement components. Figure above shows the extracted tectonic displacements in the Yamakoshi mountain terrain.
The Google Earth tour flying about 6km over the Yamakoshi area provides you with the spatial distribution of both tectonic displacements and earthquake-induced slope failures in great detail.
